Today had quite a sombre feel to it. It was off to the National Mall and all the memorials therein. But firstly, I had to take the kids to look at the Star Spangled Banner in the museum that I fell in love with yesterday.
A special bracelet for Grace. Would you believe it sistas?
It was then on to the WW2 memorial. Over 4,000 stars here, each one representing 100 fallen men.
The Vietnam War Memorial is as moving in real life as all the photos and words I have seen written about it. I managed to catch Lach's reflection in the wall.
Obligatory squirrel to lighten the mood aaaaaw.....
It was then time to see Abe.
And another look back at Washington Monument.
What's this? You can just make out a platoon of weary soldiers trudging through the grass on the left.
This is the Korean War Memorial. Very moving. You could feel their pain and weariness.
We then walked across the Potomac to Virginia. I have always wanted to visit Arlington - I wouldn't be Margaret's daughter if I didn't want to check out cemeteries.
It was awsome in the true sense of the word. Over 350,000 graves in acres of manicured gardens. The sun was out, we were all tired but we managed to walk around enough to get the sense of the place.
The Kennedy family grave was a sacred site. You were not allowed to speak.
And, to round off the day, the Presidential Motorcade came right past as we were making our way out of Arlington. Police, secret service, mysterious vans, ambulance - the works.
We could actually see the Prez through the tinted window - it was very cool. Got the whole thing on video.
Here's the man himself (trust me).
And here is the Secret Service checking me out.
Two Presidents in two weeks and Lach and I have been right on the side of the road with cameras and phones. We have probably got FBI files now thanks to obligatory photos on arrival and facial recognition software. We are the President stalkers.
Another great day in the Capital. It's now done to the Atrium Bar that the 1980s forgot for my free beer and snacks.
